The inaugural The Void Trials Jiu-Jitsu Tournament took place this past weekend in Waunakee, Wisconsin, and Black Flag Jiu-Jitsu and Pedigo Submission Fighting made their presence known. Jeff Larsen represented Black Flag in the 84kg division, while PSF teammate Joey Alexander competed in the 70kg bracket.
Both athletes finished the tournament undefeated and walked away as champions of their respective divisions.
For Black Flag, the weekend was another opportunity to test our training against tough competition outside of Rockford. Jeff made the most of that opportunity, going 3-0 with three submissions and becoming the first-ever 84kg champion at The Void Trials.

Jeff Larsen Goes 3-0 at The Void Trials Jiu-Jitsu Tournament
Jeff entered the 84kg bracket looking to continue a busy year of competition. He has competed across several different formats, including IBJJF tournaments, superfights and regional events.
At The Void Trials Jiu-Jitsu Tournament, Jeff didn’t leave any of his matches in the judges’ hands.
He earned submissions in all three matches, finishing the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record. The performance earned Jeff the inaugural 84kg championship belt and another piece of hardware to bring back to Black Flag Jiu-Jitsu in Rockford.
Winning a tournament is always something to celebrate, but becoming an inaugural champion makes this one a little different. As The Void Trials continues to develop, Jeff’s name will remain attached to the event as its first 84kg champion.
The three submissions also reflect the type of Jiu-Jitsu we want our athletes developing at Black Flag. Competition provides an opportunity to see how effectively athletes can recognize opportunities, solve problems and create finishes against opponents they have never trained with before.
Jeff was able to do exactly that throughout his three matches.
Joey Alexander Wins the 70kg Division
Black Flag wasn’t the only part of the Pedigo Submission Fighting family celebrating in Waunakee.
PSF teammate Joey Alexander competed in the 70kg bracket and also went undefeated. Joey won all three of his matches, picking up two submissions and earning his third victory by decision in overtime.
His performance gave Pedigo Submission Fighting another champion at the inaugural tournament.
Between Jeff and Joey, the two PSF athletes combined for a 6-0 record with five submissions. Jeff claimed the 84kg championship while Joey took home the 70kg title.
Results like these are also one of the reasons we value being part of the larger Pedigo Submission Fighting team. While Black Flag represents Rockford, our athletes regularly have opportunities to compete alongside PSF teammates from other academies.
Another Championship Comes Back to Rockford
The The Void Trials Jiu-Jitsu Tournament was another successful weekend for Black Flag competition Jiu-Jitsu and another chance to represent Rockford on the road.
Jeff continues to challenge himself against different competitors and tournament formats, and this time he returned home with a championship belt and a perfect submission rate.
Congratulations to Jeff Larsen on becoming the first-ever 84kg champion at The Void Trials and to Joey Alexander on winning the 70kg bracket. Six matches, six victories and five submissions made for a strong showing from the PSF team in Wisconsin.
For Black Flag, it is back to training in Rockford and preparing for whatever competition comes next.
