At Black Flag Jiu-Jitsu, we believe that creating the cleanest mat space in Rockford requires more than simply wiping down the mats after class. Cleanliness is one of the most important parts of running a safe and professional academy, which is why we recently completed one of the biggest deep cleaning projects we’ve ever undertaken.
This past Saturday, we pulled up every single mat in our training room to perform a complete deep clean from the ground up. Every individual mat was scrubbed by hand before being put back into place. With the mats removed, we thoroughly vacuumed the entire floor underneath, removing months of accumulated hair, dust, dirt, clipped fingernails, and anything else that naturally finds its way beneath the mat system over time.
It was a long day that required a lot of hard work, but maintaining the cleanest mat space in Rockford is something we take seriously.
Jiu-Jitsu is one of the closest contact sports there is. Every day, dozens of students spend hours training, sweating, and working together on the mats. That means maintaining a clean environment isn’t just about appearances. It is about protecting the health of everyone who trains at the academy.
Our mats are cleaned after every day of training, but certain maintenance simply cannot be done without removing the entire floor. By taking the time to lift every mat, scrub each section individually, and clean underneath the entire training surface, we are able to eliminate debris that routine cleaning cannot reach.
This level of attention to detail reflects the standards we hold ourselves to as an academy. We are constantly investing in better cleaning equipment, improved maintenance procedures, and facility upgrades because we believe our students deserve a professional training environment every time they step onto the mats.
Creating the cleanest mat space in Rockford is also a team effort. We appreciate every member who helps by wearing clean uniforms, trimming their fingernails and toenails, practicing good hygiene, and respecting the academy. Those small habits make a big difference and help us maintain a safe place for everyone to train.
Behind the scenes, there is a tremendous amount of work that goes into operating a Jiu-Jitsu academy that many people never see. While students are focused on improving their techniques, we are constantly working to improve the facility itself. Whether it’s deep cleaning the mats, upgrading our equipment, or making improvements around the building, we are always looking for ways to provide the best possible experience for our members.
The entire deep clean took hours to complete, but it was time well spent. We are proud of the academy we’ve built, and we believe our students deserve a facility that reflects the same level of care and attention that goes into our coaching.
