IBJJF Chicago Spring Open 2026 Results: Black Flag Jiu-Jitsu
The IBJJF Chicago Spring Open 2026 was another strong showing for the Black Flag Jiu-Jitsu team. Competing against tough brackets from across the Midwest, our athletes stepped onto the mats ready to represent and came away with multiple podium finishes. Events like this are always a test of preparation, composure, and the ability to perform under pressure, and our team delivered.
Jeff Larsen led the way with an impressive performance in the purple belt divisions. Jeff took gold in the purple belt medium heavy gi division, showing control and consistency throughout his matches. He also added a bronze medal in the purple belt no-gi medium heavy division, rounding out a strong weekend against high-level competition. Competing in both gi and no-gi at that level is never easy, and Jeff’s results reflect the work he continues to put in on the mats.

Our youth program was represented by Noah, who had a great run in his division. Noah took silver in the grey and white belt division, showing confidence and composure throughout the tournament. For a young competitor, stepping into an IBJJF event can be a big moment, and Noah rose to the challenge.
Tyler also earned a spot on the podium, taking bronze in the featherweight blue belt master 1 division. The masters divisions are always competitive, with experienced athletes who bring a high level of technical skill, and Tyler battled his way to a well-earned finish.
One of the standout moments of the event came from Jack Thompson, who made his IBJJF debut in the white belt gi division and took gold. Winning your first IBJJF tournament is no small accomplishment, and Jack’s performance showed poise and execution well beyond his experience level.
The IBJJF Chicago Spring Open 2026 highlighted the depth of the Black Flag team. From youth competitors to experienced athletes, everyone who stepped on the mats represented the gym with effort and professionalism. These results are a reflection of the work being done every day in training and the culture that continues to grow within the team.
We are proud of everyone who competed and the way they carried themselves throughout the event. The momentum continues as we head into the next round of competitions.
