Wrestling Seminar Recap: Michael Pixley & Brandon Reed + More

This past weekend, Black Flag Jiu-Jitsu had the privilege of hosting Michael Pixley and Brandon Reed for a two-day wrestling seminar that delivered incredible value to our athletes and community. Both competitors are highly accomplished grapplers, and the knowledge they shared over the weekend will have a lasting impact on our training and competition preparation.

Wrestling seminar

Day 1: Wrestling Seminar for Jiu-Jitsu

The first day of the seminar was focused on wrestling for jiu-jitsu, giving our athletes the looks they need to dominate on the feet. Michael and Brandon broke down takedown setups, grip fighting, and strategies for creating angles that open up submissions and control. The session offered techniques tailored specifically for jiu-jitsu athletes, helping our team improve their stand-up game.

The attention to detail from both instructors gave participants a better understanding of why wrestling is a powerful tool in modern jiu-jitsu. Athletes left the first day with immediate adjustments to implement in training, strengthening their ability to dictate where the fight happens.

Day 2: Wrestling Focus

The second day took things to the next level with a wrestling-specific seminar focused entirely on high-level stand-up technique. Pixley and Reed shared advanced chain attacks, defensive strategies, and transitions that set competitors apart at the highest levels. The hands-on instruction pushed our athletes physically and mentally, giving them the confidence to commit to explosive movements and finish takedowns with control.

By the end of Day 2, it was clear why Michael and Brandon are regarded as two of the best minds when it comes to integrating wrestling into competitive grappling. Our team gained a new perspective on how to blend styles effectively and stay ahead of the competition.
